Rangers' acquire Molina from Giants

07/01/2010 - Anaheim, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Texas Rangers have acquired catcher Bengie Molina and cash from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for pitchers Chris Ray and Michael Main.

Molina will join the Rangers on Friday when they open a three-game series against the Chicago White Sox in Arlington.

The 35-year-old Molina batted .257 with three home runs and 17 runs driven in over 61 games this season for the Giants.

He is a career .275 hitter with 142 long balls and 692 RBI with the Angels, Blue Jays and Giants.

Molina has also thrown out 28 percent of would-be base stealers in his 13 year-career and is a two-time Gold Glove winner.

Ray was 2-0 with a 3.41 earned run average in 35 relief outings for Texas this season and is 12-17 with a 4.01 ERA and 50 saves over five seasons with the Orioles and Rangers.

Main was a first round choice by Texas in 2007 and was recently promoted to Double-A Frisco.

Also, Texas recalled pitcher Pedro Strop from Triple-A Oklahoma City. Strop is in his third stint with the Rangers and threw a scoreless inning in his lone big league appearance on June 2.
