Sounders defender Hurtado goes down with ACL injury

05/25/2010 - Renton, WA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Seattle Sounders FC placed central defender Jhon Kennedy Hurtado on injured reserve with a torn left anterior cruciate ligament he suffered Saturday in a 1-0 loss to the San Jose Earthquakes.

Hurtado, a Major League Soccer All-Star and finalist for defender of the year last season, suffered the injury in stoppage time near midfield while defending Earthquakes forward Chris Wondolowski.

"It's unfortunate. Kennedy has been a great defender," Sounders FC coach Sigi Schmid told his club's website. "One-v-one he is one of the top couple of defenders in this league. We are certainly going to miss him, but luckily ACL's are things that people fix nowadays and people come back and play full out on them again. So he will be back with us before we know it."

The 26-year-old is eligible to return to league play for the July 15 game at D.C. United, but isn't expected back until late in the season, if at all in 2010.

"We'll move on," Seattle owner/GM Adrian Hanauer told his club's website. "There are injuries in soccer. We can't hang our heads and worry about it now. We have to go forward and make the best of a bad situation."
